Banyuning Village, one of the sprawling villages in Buleleng, Bali, has unique and meaningful hereditary traditions, one of which is Nyepi Banyuning. This tradition is similar to Nyepi Tahun Baru Caka, but has differences in the type of caru or purification ceremony used.
In Banyuning, the caru penyepian uses Caru Dresta, which uses five typical animals: belangbungkem dogs, geese, cows, goats and pigs. The choice of these animals is full of philosophical meaning and is an important element in the ritual.
Nyepi Banyuning is held every year, on the day after rahina tilem kalima. During the ceremony, the village becomes more silent and sakral. Although the streets can still be traversed by residents, those who trade are asked to close their shops for the whole day, as a form of respect for tradition.
The silence that is maintained and the spirit of the people who carry out this tradition provide an unforgettable authentic experience. Nyepi Banyuning is not only a religious ritual, but also a symbol of the rich culture that maintains the balance of nature, humanity and spirituality.
